Is Fear Holding You Back?

I had the great privilege of working with the team at Cartier interviewing incredible women with start up companies to apply for the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards.

The awards are for women business owners whose businesses are focused on creating a strong social impact.

To meet so many incredible woman all focusing on making positive change, was incredibly humbling and inspiring.

I feel very blessed to meet so many women through Let’s Connect Women.

One thing is apparent though - as women, we tend to play small, not back ourselves and not have the confidence to drive our passions forward.

I am no different. However with coaching and years of personal work and being inspired and motivated everyday by you all, I am slowly changing.

How is it that women have a mindset of “not enough”?

We need to learn from the people who do it really well - men!

Men are not exempt from doubting themselves—but they don’t let their doubts stop them as often as women do.

Our cultural environment has provided women more educational, career and business opportunities than ever before, yet still we struggle with that negative voice inside us that says “can you really succeed”??

How do we change and shine our light brightly?

I believe it is a life long journey. One which needs consistency.

It is not a one off fix.

Here are my 5 steps to build confidence and resilience:-

1. Step outside your comfort zone. Take small steps to start,

which can lead to bigger things, this is where the magic happens

2. Find a coach or mentor who can help you with vision and confidence.

3. Read motivational books and listen to motivational podcasts - keep learning to build your skill set

4. Try yoga - not the hot sweaty type (though this is good) but more a yin practice which

will help align your body, mind and thoughts

5. Find your tribe of supportive women. We are the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with.

Think about that!

What I know for sure (using Oprah’s term) is that individually as women we are amazing but together we are stronger. The tribe of Let’s Connect Women teaches me that, everyday - thank you x

Let me leave you with this thought from Marianne Williamson...

"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.”
